Senior Data Governance Manager
Location: London/Glasgow/Cardiff
Contract Type: 6 month contact
Day Rate: Inside IR35, £650 - £700 per day
Role We are looking for an experienced Senior Data Governance Specialist to play a pivotal role in embedding a robust Data Governance Framework across our organisation. This is an exciting opportunity to shape the way we manage and protect data, ensuring it delivers maximum value, quality, and usability. As a senior member of the Data & AI function, you will work closely with leadership to define and deliver the vision and strategy for data governance. You’ll lead initiatives that drive cultural change, improve data quality, and operationalise governance processes, while fostering a community that values data as a strategic asset.
What You’ll Do
- Develop, monitor, and assess data assets against data quality metrics.
- Create and maintain data governance policies, standards, processes, and controls.
- Drive compliance with the data governance framework and embed data quality as a key organisational metric.
- Lead data initiatives, working with Data Stewards and Data Managers to ensure alignment with governance standards.
- Coach and mentor peers and the wider data community to promote best practices.
- Manage and maintain Microsoft Purview for the Azure data platform, including reporting on data metrics and onboarding new data domains.
- Ensure compliance with GDPR/DPA regulations in collaboration with legal and risk teams.
- Maintain and improve the enterprise data catalogue and define organisational structures to deliver data policy and controls.
- Support leadership communications, planning sessions, and chair governance forums.
Key Deliverables
- A fully operational Data Governance Framework with measurable data quality metrics.
- Comprehensive governance artefacts, policies, and standards.
- A centralised team of data policy and controls professionals.
- Effective use of Microsoft Purview for governance and reporting.
- Continuous improvement plans for data maturity and compliance.
Key Skills & Experience
- Strong background in creating and maintaining data management/governance policies, controls, processes, and standards.
- Expertise in defining and reporting on data quality metrics.
- Hands-on experience with Microsoft Purview, acting as the organisational expert.
- Familiarity with RBAC models and enterprise data governance frameworks.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
- Ability to translate technical concepts into accessible, user-friendly materials.
